are you connected?

People want to feel connected.  As Seth Godin put it in his book The Tribes Casebook (a free download) all of us in some way belong to a tribe. You may not think it’s a tribe or call it something else like a group or a league or a class or demographic, but we all belong to a tribe in one way or another.  Think about it, belonging to a tribe gives us a sense of belonging, of being part of this group and perhaps an important part of the group.

Life has shown us that we are happiest when we can connect with others of like mind, with people that support our ideas, with friends and family and loved ones.  Think of how this need or wanting has evolved from the days of a simple phone call to today where you can find old school mates online through platforms like Facebook which has over 350 million users.  I reconnected with a cousin that I had not seen or spoken with since I was about 7 or 8 years old.  We are now catching up though Facebook.  What a great tool.

Business marketing has evolved and the shift has been to move more of the marketing dollars to where the customers are instead of chasing the customers.  Coca Cola made the announcement in mid January this year to move away from its traditional campaign sites to community platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.  Look at some of the major corporations using Twitter as a CRM tool.  This article lists forty major corporations like Ford, Chevy, Jet Blue, Marriott and so many others that have embraced Social Media and are actively communicating with consumers in their community. Yes, yes you want to know about ROI? Watch the video on the right of this blog page, it will shed some light on the question everyone is asking about.

“Ignoring the Internet (and social media) is madness according to designer Diane von Furstenburg who has 22,000 following her on Twitter. She was quoted in the article How the fashion industry is embracing social media The point is clear and obvious.  If you are not using social media to build your brand or to connect with your customers, you are missing one of the key elements that can catapult your business or brand to a level never imagined.  So are you connected?  I hope the answer is yes and if you aren’t, I think it’s time you start. Delaying will only cost you more in the long run.

    Frank,
I could not agree with you more. I also think that with everyone using tools such as DVR to record their shows people are watching less and less television commercials. Social Media also allows people to have just a small snapshot of the persons mind. First person that comes to mind is the CEO of Zappo’s, he is so funny and it’s because of this I have looked at their website and purchased shoes. I was not a fan of on-line shoe shopping before but I do enjoy spending my money with companies that make me happy. Case in point- social media is changing the way that consumers purchase and market, very cool stuff.
Hope you are doing great! Love the pic!
