WOM – why care about word of mouth

June 10th, 2013

Have you ever had one of those moments or perhaps you just came out of a great weekend and you couldn’t wait to get to work on Monday so you could either brag or share about the awesome events and experiences you had over the weekend?

I’m sure we’ve all experienced this at one time or another.  Maybe going to work wasn’t how you wanted to share the experience but perhaps you shared with a close friend or relative.   The point is you had a positive experience and you shared it almost immediately.  What about a negative experience?  Ever have one of those?

I’m pretty confident I know the answer to that one as well.  Imagine this scenario; You purchase a product or service and you finally get it home and open the package and its not what you thought.  To make matters worse you realize that its defective and doesn’t work properly.  You decide to return it immediately and since most of us are purchasing products online and with mobile devices, you are looking » Read more: WOM – why care about word of mouth

5 reasons to use twitter for retail business

August 21st, 2011

My last post was earlier this year which unfortunately is not the best example on my part on how often to write a blog as I encourage everyone to post a new blog at least once a month if not weekly. It too spoke about twitter and how it’s growing by leaps and bounds. So I decided I would start off again with an encore to that last post.  You can read all my posts right here at Emerging Sales Success web site.

Since its humble beginnings in 2006, Twitter’s rapid growth has resulted in an estimated user base of 200 million. While originally created by Jack Dorsey as a tool for individuals to use an SMS service to communicate with a small group, businesses soon realized they could harness Twitter’s exceptional promotional power to increase sales, establish brand identity and connect with customers.

wired.com features a fantastic article detailing the advantages of using Twitter for starting a new business.

So how exactly do businesses take advantage of Twitter’s promotional power? » Read more: 5 reasons to use twitter for retail business

October 25th, 2010

As published in Whole Foods Magazine October 25, 2010

With a FaceBook here and a FaceBook there, here a FaceBook there a FaceBook everywhere a FaceBook … yes, if Old MacDonald was around, he, too, would be on FaceBook. But why? Why the rage? Why is everyone on FaceBook and why would a business be on FaceBook?

Lets start by looking at the basic numbers*:

  • There are over 500 million ACTIVE users (these are people that have returned to the site in the last 30 days).
  • 50% of users log in on any given day.
  • Approximately 150,000,000 users are located in the United States.

simple question – simple answer – what is social media?

May 6th, 2010

I guess I am still surprised at how many people I come across that are not familiar with the Social Media Revolution happening.  I am still asked what is Social Media. What does it do? At a recent event where Starr Hall was the keynote speaker, she asked the audience if everyone was familiar with social media and so many did not know what it was.

Now most people have heard of FaceBook and Twitter, LinkedIn or MySpace.  Most just don’t know how to use them effectively or that they are considered social media platforms.

So in this very simple and basic video put together off the cuff at my desk, I answer the simple question: What is social media?

Enjoy.
