reach your maximum potential…Not!

August 21st, 2015

we cantReach your maximum or fullest potential.

Authors, motivational speakers, guru’s all talk about reaching the height of your maximum potential.  Are these misleading statements? Can we truly achieve what is referred to as maximum potential?  If we did, what would that look like?

You may probably disagree with me, but hear me out.  I don’t think you can ever hit it!  Yes, you read this correctly.  I said you will probably NEVER hit your MAXIMUM potential.  I know it sounds like a ridiculous statement but lets look at this a little closer.

When amazing coaches and authors talk about  “growing to reach your maximum potential” Are they feeding you a bunch of bunk?

I’m absolutely positive that if you ask any of them, they would all reply with a resounding NO!

I believe that statement is contradictory to what everyone teaches. Here’s why:

We are all here to learn lessons and grow.   We are all here to learn how to love unconditionally, to make a difference in our lives and in the lives of those we come in contact with.  By now we also know that this is not an easy task.  We grow, we fall, we fail, we get hurt and we stumble and hopefully we get up and keep going.

We never stop.

Even those that have reached what seems to be the pinnacle of success continue growing and learning, changing and improving on themselves.  They NEVER STOP.  That is the key. It may sound exhausting but it truly isn’t.  When we are aligned with our true life’s purpose we never seem to view what we do as an arduous task.

Simply because I am successful at what I do to earn an income and everything I do seems to work out in business, does that mean I have reached my maximum potential?  Absolutely not!  I am always learning something new.  I align myself with those that know more than I do and I learn and that gives me the ability to stretch myself and experience new things that I can then share with others in an effort to help them on their path.

What about my personal life?  Anyone that knows me can attest to the fact that I have a lot to learn about relationships.  But that is my path and even at my age, I am constantly learning and evolving.  I may one day be in a place where I can say I have been successful in my relationship but that does not mean I stop learning and finding new ways to make my relationship stronger, healthier, more intimate and longer lasting.

Here’s the thing, if in fact I did achieve my maximum potential in this lifetime, would that make me super human?  Would I have powers that others do not possess?  Would I be so complete (maximum potential) I would be perfect in all I do?  Seriously …

We are all human and as humans we are all gifted with the same abilities.  I know it’s all a play on words, and maybe that is the final point.

We all have the ability to do great things in this lifetime.

Which then begs the question; as humans are we limited in our ability for growth?

Can we only go so far and then stop?  What would be the point?  Life is an ever growing and ever changing landscape full of experiences that allows us to continue growing and maturing.  Learning and expressing ourselves in newfound ways that can only come from continued growth.  So yes, we can be great in this lifetime. We can be very successful in all aspects of our lives.  But, (BUT – acronym – Behold Underlying Truth) we will ALWAYS continue growing and evolving.

are you prepared?

September 19th, 2012

As printed in Whole Foods Magazine

2 million, 5 million, 10 million?  It really doesn’t matter. The numbers will be much higher than what was predicted or expected.  What am I talking about?  The iPhone 5 of course.  Did you stay up until the wee hours of the morning to pre-order yours?  I hate to admit it, but I did and I am going to receive mine on Friday unlike (apparently millions now) who will not see their pre-order until October.

So what’s the big deal and why should I care about another gadget that makes the headlines.  It’s not just about the gadget. Yes, I could sit here and write about all the new features of the phone and how I am going to love the bigger screen and simply the upgrade from my iPhone 4.  But this is bigger news than what you see or read about.  It’s about the » Read more: are you prepared?

5 reasons to use twitter for retail business

August 21st, 2011

My last post was earlier this year which unfortunately is not the best example on my part on how often to write a blog as I encourage everyone to post a new blog at least once a month if not weekly. It too spoke about twitter and how it’s growing by leaps and bounds. So I decided I would start off again with an encore to that last post.  You can read all my posts right here at Emerging Sales Success web site.

Since its humble beginnings in 2006, Twitter’s rapid growth has resulted in an estimated user base of 200 million. While originally created by Jack Dorsey as a tool for individuals to use an SMS service to communicate with a small group, businesses soon realized they could harness Twitter’s exceptional promotional power to increase sales, establish brand identity and connect with customers.

wired.com features a fantastic article detailing the advantages of using Twitter for starting a new business.

So how exactly do businesses take advantage of Twitter’s promotional power? » Read more: 5 reasons to use twitter for retail business

29 billion and counting – the twitter connection

January 27th, 2011

At the time of writing this blog, Twitter had reached over 29 billion tweets and counting.  So what is it about this little blue bird that has captivated the minds of so many fans globally?  What or how can we best use it and why?  Is this another one of those online gadgets that are going to suck whatever time we have left and not provide us with anything in return?  I know, I know, I’m always looking at ROI.

What I’d like you to do first is check out this link that gives you two options; the first is a live Twitter count (see the tabs) GigaTweet and the second is a live Twitter feed.  The count is great to watch just because it’s impressive.  Although I have to say the live US Debt Clock is far more impressive in size of numbers. (Kind of scary too if you think about it)

Let’s get back to Twitter.  This video Twitter In Plain English gives a basic explanation of what Twitter does in its basic format.  When Twitter was initially founded the idea was to create a micro blog; » Read more: 29 billion and counting – the twitter connection

SEO … what, why how?

December 28th, 2010

As published in Whole Foods Magazine

Search engine optimization, search engine marketing, search engine management and then we have all the acronyms that go with them. But, what is Search Engine Optimization and how can it help us in marketing our Web sites or helping our businesses?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the art of creating Web pages that will rank high in search engine returns. SEO is accomplished by optimizing certain sections or “elements” in the HTML coding of each page of your Web site. These sections are specifically read by search engines and, depending on the level of optimization, can create a greater likelihood of free referral traffic.

You can have the most elaborate Web site that may have cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but if no one knows it’s there, then your investment will reap you zero return. The only way your Web site will work for you is when it is seen by your potential customers. About 98% of » Read more: SEO … what, why how?

simple question – simple answer – what is social media?

May 6th, 2010

I guess I am still surprised at how many people I come across that are not familiar with the Social Media Revolution happening.  I am still asked what is Social Media. What does it do? At a recent event where Starr Hall was the keynote speaker, she asked the audience if everyone was familiar with social media and so many did not know what it was.

Now most people have heard of FaceBook and Twitter, LinkedIn or MySpace.  Most just don’t know how to use them effectively or that they are considered social media platforms.

So in this very simple and basic video put together off the cuff at my desk, I answer the simple question: What is social media?

Enjoy.

how to use google and twitter to find your customers

April 9th, 2010

I get an enormous amount of email daily and much of these are articles and new information on Social Media and how to use the various tools available.  There is so much information being posted on a regular basis that sometimes its difficult to filter it down to useful bytes.  (like me use of bites/bytes?)  Today was no different.  I however come across this great article on “How To Use Google and Twitter To Find Your Customers.”  I wanted to share this one with you as I feel it will answer some questions about how to use some of the tools that are available and I just personally felt that Eric Tsai did such a great job in explaining this to everyone in terms we can all understand and in a step by step process.

I invite you to read the full article here.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
